A meeting was held between the heads of the maritime departments of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On May 11, 2021, a meeting was held between the heads of the sea and river departments of Turkmenistan and the Iranian Islamic Republic via video communication, and during this meeting, issues related to the possibility of establishing cooperation between the Turkmen-Iranian seaports were discussed.

The Iranian side also noted that a car ferry is currently running between the port of Amirabad and the port of Aktau and proposed to establish a ferry service along the Amirabad-Turkmenbashi route. Turkmen companies were also invited wishing to build terminals by investing in the economic zone located on the territory of the Iranian port.

During the meeting, the heads of the ports of Nowshahr, Anzali and Amirabad spoke in detail about the port's capabilities and expressed their readiness to further intensify cooperation with the Turkmen side.

In turn, the Turkmen side informed about the potential of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi. It was also noted about the planned construction of ships for our national fleet and Iranian companies were invited to participate in shipbuilding projects. The Turkmen side also proposed to establish container transportation between the ports of the two countries, taking into account the growing demand for containers.
