On December 4, 2024, the 23rd meeting of the Turkmenistan-European Union Joint Committee was held in Brussels. The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by the Minister of Finance and Economy. The EU delegation at the Parliament was led by the Deputy Managing Director for European and Central Asian Affairs of the European External Action Service. The Mejlis started with the congratulatory words of the representatives of Turkmenistan and the EU, then the agenda was approved. Cooperation in the field of trade, including support for Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO, the macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan and the EU, transportation and digitalization were discussed.
Particular attention was paid to the areas of energy, environmental protection and sustainable development. Water resource management, reducing methane emissions, environmental issues in the region, as well as opportunities to use renewable energy sources were the main topics of discussion. The Turkmen side expressed its attitude towards future steps in this direction.

The Mejlis ended with an exchange of views on the future of strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union. In the final views of the parties, it was emphasized the importance of such meetings to deepen bilateral relations.
