The world's longest high-speed tunnel opened in China

Construction of the world's highest high-speed highway, Tianshan-Shanli, has been completed in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region in northwestern China. Xinhua agency reports about this.

The 22.13-kilometer-long underground tunnel passes through snow-capped mountains and connects the southern and northern parts of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

After launch, the time to cross the middle of the Tien Shan Mountains will be reduced from several hours to about 20 minutes.

The new facility is an important part of the Urumqi-Yuli expressway, which runs from Urumqi to the Yuli district in the south of the region. The project is expected to be fully completed and commissioned in 2025.
