On January 9, 2025, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan participated in an international seminar on "Regional Trade and Connectivity: Opening New Horizons and Opportunities," organized by the Institute of Strategic Studies, Research and Analysis (ISSRA) and the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) of Pakistan. During the seminar, speeches were delivered by the ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to Pakistan, as well as Pakistani and foreign economic experts.
The speakers noted the vast prospects for trade and economic relations between the countries of Central and South Asia and discussed ways to effectively utilize the existing potential.
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan emphasized Turkmenistan's active role in developing cooperation in the fields of transport and energy, as one of the most important priorities of the country's foreign policy. He presented a report on the constructive initiatives of the leadership of Turkmenistan, supported by the UN General Assembly, aimed at strengthening energy and transport security, as well as on the declaration of 2025 by the UN General Assembly as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
As a vivid example of Turkmenistan's policy, slides were presented to the seminar participants about the ceremony of the beginning of construction of important energy and transport projects on the border of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, which took place in September 2024. It was noted that the implementation of these projects would contribute to further strengthening peace and trust in the region. The Ambassador of Turkmenistan also spoke about the policy of the leadership of Turkmenistan to expand transport and transit communications passing through the country in the East-West and North-South directions.
The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan, called for strengthening regional connectivity, which would provide the countries of the region with access to vital energy resources. He noted that through joint projects such as pipelines, transport, and energy corridors, the countries of the region can achieve stable and diversified supplies of energy resources, thereby strengthening their energy security.
