Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Consider Visa Waiver for Drivers

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are exploring the possibility of eliminating visa requirements for drivers. This initiative aligns with Kazakhstan's efforts to develop alternative transport routes to Europe, utilizing the borders of Turkmenistan, Iran, and Türkiye, as reported by Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Kazakhstan plans to establish a new transport corridor to facilitate access to the European market through these countries. To achieve this, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan is actively developing a system that will ensure the free movement of goods by road with Turkmenistan, creating favorable conditions for transit.

A memorandum was signed to amend the intergovernmental agreement regarding international road freight transport between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan last year on October. The approval process for this document is currently in progress.

Recently Kazakhstan has modernized its automobile border checkpoints with Turkmenistan, China, and Uzbekistan, enhancing capacity from 170 to 960 vehicles per day and reducing crossing times to 30 minutes.
