Turkmenistan Ready to Expand Transport, Energy Partnership With EU

Turkmenistan expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation with the European Union in transport, energy, environmental protection, and the development of a green economy. Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova made the statement at the ministerial meeting on interregional connectivity in Luxembourg, held after the EU Foreign Affairs Council session.

Discussions focused on strengthening the Trans-Caspian route and other transport corridors linking Central Asia and Europe. Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of developing the EU–Black Sea–Turkey–South Caucasus–Central Asia corridor and promoting joint investment and logistics projects that enhance regional connectivity.

Turkmenistan supports the SECCA initiative on sustainable energy connectivity and is exploring projects in renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, and electricity exports to Europe. Under its green agenda, the country plans to fulfill its commitments under the Paris Agreement, implement energy-efficiency projects, and reduce emissions. Among its proposals are the establishment of a Regional Center for Combating Desertification and the organization of a Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026.

The country reaffirmed its commitment to the goals of the EU–Central Asia Joint Roadmap and expressed readiness to move forward with practical projects in transport and energy connectivity. The EU, in turn, announced preparations for a coordination framework to implement the Agenda with the participation of member states, international financial institutions, and investors.

During the visit, Central Asian countries discussed cooperation priorities and specific projects with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Eduards Stiprais. The forum also brought together European Investment Bank Director Andrew McDowell, representatives of the European Commission, and the European External Action Service.
