Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers M. Chakiyev reported at a government meeting on the results of the activities of institutions of the supervised sphere for 2023.
In the reporting period, the growth rate for the performance of works and provision of services for the complex as a whole was 121 percent.
Last year, the growth rate of freight transport by road, rail, air, sea and river transport reached 103.5 percent, and that of passenger transport reached 105.7 percent.
The growth rate of service provision for the mentioned period for the agency "Türkmendemirýollary" was 106.4 percent, for the agency "Türkmenawtoulaglary" - 118 percent, for the agency "Türkmenhowaýollary" - 192.2 percent, for the agency "Türkmendeňizderýaýollary" - 106.1 percent, for the agency "Türkmenaragatnaşyk" - 111.5 percent.
There was also information on the implementation of the "Concept for the Development of Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025".
A separate topic of the report was the results of the past meetings of joint working commissions on the development of transport and logistics cooperation with foreign countries, as well as investment in the construction of industrial and social facilities for the transport and communications complex in various parts of the country.
Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov focused attention on priority tasks for further development of the industry. In this context, the importance of expanding the routes of transit corridors, increasing the volume and quality of passenger and cargo traffic, and increasing all types of transport and communication services was noted.
The country's railway system should continue to be modernized, in particular by strengthening its material and technical base to increase capacity.
Special emphasis was placed on the need to systematically replenish the fleet of road transport companies with modern buses, taxis and trucks of various types, as well as to expand the range of services provided to the population.
President Berdimuhamedov stressed that practical steps should continue to be taken to reconstruct existing and build new air havens in the country, as well as to continue work on opening international flights to new economically more favorable destinations and expanding cargo routes.
The Head of state instructed to fully utilize the potential of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port, the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant.
The Head of the Agency was also instructed to modernize the communications sector in line with modern requirements.
