The possibilities of cooperation in the field of maritime education and training of maritime specialists were discussed at a meeting of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov with the General Director of the Antwerp Maritime Academy Rowen van Scheren.
During the visit to this university college, where the future officers of the Belgian Navy are trained, the Turkmen ambassador got acquainted with the key directions of the academy's activities, its educational programs, research work and offered practical trainings.
Rowen van Scheren emphasized that the academy provides specialized educational programs, certificates of which are recognized at the international level, which confirms the high standard of education and enjoys authority in the global maritime community.
The head of the Antwerp Maritime Academy expressed interest in developing partnership relations with Turkmenistan, noting that this opens up new opportunities for exchange of students and teachers, implementation of joint scientific projects, as well as creation of specialized programs aimed at meeting the needs of the Turkmen maritime industry in highly qualified personnel.
In the conversation with the ambassador, he made an accent on the research activity of the academy, carried out by order of the sea ports and relevant organizations. Cooperation in this direction, in his opinion, will contribute to the implementation of joint research projects, including the development of modern port infrastructure and optimization of logistics operations in Turkmenistan.
In response to the initiative of the General Director of the Antwerp Maritime Academy, the ambassador expressed readiness to facilitate further discussion of possible directions of cooperation, stressing the interest of Turkmenistan in developing its maritime sector and improving the qualification of personnel of this specialization.
Sapar Palvanov suggested to consider the possibility of establishing direct partnership contacts between the Antwerp Maritime Academy and the Turkmenbashi Maritime Secondary Vocational School as a potential partner in Turkmenistan, telling about the role of this educational institution in the personnel provision of the maritime sector of the country. The proposal was supported by the General Director of Rowen van Scheren. As a result of the held substantive negotiations, the process of preparing a project of memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the Belgian and Turkmen sides on this topic was initiated.
