On November 28, 2024, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, and the Executive Secretary of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy (ICTD).
The meeting highlighted the importance of the upcoming high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat, which will be held within the framework of the International Conference and Exhibition on "International Transport and Transit Corridors: Interconnection and Development – 2024."
The participants discussed a wide range of issues related to enhancing connectivity between countries through improvements to transport infrastructure in Turkmenistan and the broader region. A key focus of the talks was the improvement of the legal and logistical framework for international transport.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan, as a participant in 12 international transport conventions, remains firmly committed to broad international cooperation in the transport sector. Over the past decade, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted six resolutions on transport.
The parties also noted Turkmenistan's significant progress in advancing the goals of the Ashgabat Process, launched in 2016, and its contributions to the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035).
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Turkmen side expressed its willingness to explore new ideas for deepening cooperation in the transport sector.
