On December 9, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the UN Secretary-General for the Rule of Law and Security Institutions visited Ashgabat to participate in the international consultation on "Joint efforts to strengthen international peace and sustainable development" and the activities dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality. A meeting was held between his assistant Alexander Zuev. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties noted that Turkmenistan pays special attention to peacebuilding, which is one of the main mechanisms of the UN in ensuring peace and security. As noted, peacekeeping operations are an effective tool in the long-term settlement of acute issues.
Based on the level of neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to consider the forms of participation in international efforts to strengthen peace.
The prospects of participation in the activities of the relevant UN agency were discussed, taking into account the degree of neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The parties expressed confidence that the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN will be further developed in a constructive manner.
