Neutrality-Turkmenistan's National Model of Foreign Policy

On December 12, 1995, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a Resolution on the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. Since then, every year on December 12, our country widely celebrates International Neutrality Day.

Firmly adhering to the legal status of permanent neutrality, our country expands friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with countries in the region and around the world. As a result of the successful implementation of our country's strategic foreign policy directions, broad opportunities are opening up for the implementation of large-scale international projects in the fields of energy, transport and communications, water resources, ecology, high technologies, "green economy", as well as in the fields of culture, science and education.

The foreign policy and diplomacy of a neutral state are aimed at creating favorable conditions on the international arena for the implementation of our long-term national programs. Over the past 29 years, neutrality has become a way of life for the people, an integral part of national consciousness.

Having joined the ranks of neutral states, Turkmenistan has assumed a number of obligations. Our country consistently follows the values of humanity and the principles of democracy, guaranteeing civil peace in the country, conducting its own policy in close cooperation with the UN and other international organizations. Eternal neutrality is inscribed in golden letters in the history of Turkmenistan and has become a source of special pride for our people.
