On March 3, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Head of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The interlocutors, first of all, congratulated each other and the peoples of the two countries on the beginning of the month of Oraza and expressed their wishes that the fasting, prayers and good deeds performed in this blessed month would be accepted by the Allah.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan highly values the relations established in recent years with the State of Qatar and attaches great importance to their expansion in all priority areas, and also expressed sincere gratitude to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his contribution to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Emir of Qatar emphasized the importance of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's multifaceted activities in strengthening traditionally friendly interstate relations and conveyed greetings and best wishes to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, TDH reports.
As noted during the telephone conversation, Turkmenistan and Qatar successfully cooperate on a bilateral basis and through international structures. Mutual support for initiatives and proposals put forward by the two countries within the framework of authoritative international organizations is a clear evidence of this.
Trade and economic relations are the most important area of interstate cooperation. In this regard, the head of the Halk Maslakhaty emphasized the prospects for Turkmen-Qatari cooperation, which includes such areas as the oil and gas sector, chemical and textile industries, investment block, transport and trade industries. Confidence was expressed that mutually beneficial projects will be successfully implemented based on the existing potential and accumulated positive experience in these areas. The National Leader of the Turkmen people confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to mutually beneficial relations with Qatar, expressing confidence that the interstate dialogue for the welfare and prosperity of the two countries and peoples will continue to develop. This year is significant for Turkmenistan, on whose initiative the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution proclaiming 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. In this regard, work is underway to organize and conduct various political events at a high level together with neighboring countries and international structures, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, continuing that on December 12, 2025, the International Forum of Peace and Trust will be held in Ashgabat on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. The head of the Halk Maslahaty invited Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to take part in this forum and festive events.
