The Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held an informal meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. This was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
The Head of State of Kazakhstan welcomed the high guest and thanked him for his visit to the spiritual capital of Kazakhstan – Turkistan, which has sacred significance for all Turkic peoples.
"It is gratifying that cooperation between our countries is developing successfully. Along with the gas sector, strategically important projects are planned in the transport and logistics sphere. We pay close attention to these events, as their results will contribute to the rapid development of economic cooperation between our countries," noted President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the beginning of the International Year of Peace and Trust, supported by the UN General Assembly, and emphasized that this initiative is evidence of the strengthening of Turkmenistan's international authority.
The Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that Kazakhstan is one of Turkmenistan's key strategic partners.
In addition, the national leader of the Turkmen people emphasized that bilateral relations in the political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres have a bright future. The Kazakh side was also thanked for supporting the UN General Assembly's proclamation of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust" at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
The meeting discussed opportunities for the further development of multifaceted strategic cooperation.
The interlocutors emphasized the need to seek new opportunities for development and take comprehensive measures to increase mutual trade turnover to $1 billion USD in the coming years.
In particular, special attention was paid to expanding cooperation in the gas sector. Discussions were held on Kazakhstan's participation in the development project of the Galkynysh field jointly with foreign partners.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the project for the construction of the Turgundi – Herat – Kandahar – Spin Boldak railway has great potential and stated that the successful implementation of this project will ensure the diversification of transport routes and will contribute to the expansion of export markets.
He also emphasized the importance of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway along the North-South route and the Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz-Kazakhstan border highway for the development of transit opportunities.
During the negotiations, an exchange of views also took place on regional and international agenda issues.
