Turkmen-Korean cooperation expands

On 15-24 of January, 2023, representatives of the “Turkmendenizderyayollary” Agency made a working visit at the invitation of the Korean side to the city of Busan, Republic of Korea, in order to implement the Memorandum between the Korea Research Institute of Marine Engineering (KOMERI) and the shipbuilding and ship repair plant “ Balkan".

During the working visit, representatives participated a number of events related to the establishment of bilateral cooperation in the field of shipbuilding between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea.           

During the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI), where the main areas of cooperation in the shipbuilding industry were discussed.

Also, a visit to the regional centers of the Marine Engineering Research Institute (KOMERI) was organized. There was an introduction to the quality checks of marine equipment and its resistance to various conditions.

 The Turkmen delegation was also acquainted with shipbuilding at the DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) shipyard. The DSME shipyard is one of the largest shipyards in the Republic of Korea where ships of all shapes and sizes are built. The DSME shipyard was founded in 1973, the plant builds various types of ships, bulk carriers, ferries, container ships and tankers. Each part of the ship is built separately, and after placing the equipment that needs to be installed, the parts are assembled and the ship is formed. This practice was developed in the Republic of Korea and is now widely used in the shipbuilding industry around the world.

 During the working visit, the Turkmen delegation presented the shipbuilding and ship repair plant "Balkan".

 During a business trip to Korea, a meeting was held with representatives of the consulting company "Movena". During the meeting, representatives of the consulting company "Movena" reported that they had carefully analyzed the available information about the Balkan shipyard and were ready to cooperate in the creation of a shipbuilding and shipbuilding department at the plant.   

As a result of the working visit, the parties once again confirmed that they would establish cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in training shipbuilding specialists and improving the production of the plant.
