On July 16, 2025, the official visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, to the Republic of Azerbaijan began.

According to the TDH news agency, the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was welcomed with official honors at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. An honor guard was lined up at the aircraft, and the national flags of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were flown over the terminal.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was greeted by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Eyyubov, Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov and other government officials.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were established on Feb. 27, 1992.
