On Sunday, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. The meeting was reported by Turkmenistan's official media.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that hosting the conference in Turkmenistan was made possible by the unanimous adoption of the corresponding resolution by the United Nations General Assembly. According to him, this reflects the high level of trust in Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality and recognition of its constructive role in global affairs.
António Guterres expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized that it was a great honor for him to participate in the forum dedicated to the development of landlocked developing countries. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s active role in promoting initiatives aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the economic and transport sectors.
During the meeting, both sides expressed confidence that the forum in Awaza would give new momentum to international cooperation, particularly in the areas of transport and trade and economic development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their belief that the conference in Awaza would contribute to the development of partnerships and support the practical implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
