Meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers Held in Avaza

On October 7, 2026, a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

The meeting was attended by the heads of foreign affairs agencies of the CIS member states, as well as the Secretary-General of the CIS.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on pressing issues of the international and regional agenda, as well as key areas of interaction within the CIS framework.

Special attention was paid to the further development of multilateral cooperation among the participating states of the Commonwealth, strengthening foreign policy coordination, and enhancing mechanisms of interaction.

In connection with Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, the participants reviewed key operational matters of the Commonwealth and summarized preliminary results of the organization's activities for the current year. Special emphasis was also placed on the 35th anniversary of the CIS, celebrated in 2026.

Within the framework of the meeting, participants discussed cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, tourism, physical culture and sports, youth affairs, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

The participants reaffirmed their interest in continuing constructive dialogue and consistently advancing mutually beneficial cooperation among the CIS member states.

Following the meeting, a signing ceremony was held for several documents aimed at further developing and strengthening cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Among the signed documents are a Protocol Decision on holding the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, a Decision on declaring 2029 as the Year of Transport Connectivity in the Commonwealth of Independent States upon the initiative of Turkmenistan, a Decision on holding the Year of Legal Literacy in the CIS in 2027 and the draft plan of activities for its preparation, as well as a Decision on the plan for multi-level consultations between foreign ministries within the CIS.
