At Turkmenistan's Initiative, 2029 Declared the "Year of Transport Connectivity"

Important decisions aimed at the future development of the region were adopted at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone. In accordance with the decision, 2028 was declared the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life, and 2029 was declared the Year of Transport Connectivity within the Commonwealth. These initiatives aim to elevate economic and social cooperation among the member states to a new stage.

The initiative to declare 2028 the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life belongs to Kyrgyzstan, and it will unite the efforts of the Commonwealth member states to socially support the population, activate the labor market, and improve the well-being of citizens. Throughout the year, it is planned to improve the regulatory and legal framework in the labor and social spheres, implement new pilot projects, and disseminate best practices. Furthermore, large-scale international forums and exchange platforms on legal, socio-economic, and demographic policy issues will be organized.

Meanwhile, the resolution to declare 2026 as the Year of Transport Connectivity of the CIS was adopted based on the initiative of Turkmenistan. This decision is a logical continuation of the objectives and logistical plans set forth in the Concept of Turkmenistan's Chairmanship of the CIS in 2026. Measures within the Commonwealth such as developing transport infrastructure, coordinating the operations of various modes of transport, digitalizing the sector, and ensuring the safety of cargo and passenger traffic will further strengthen economic integration and foreign trade relations in the region.

Within the framework of its chairmanship of the CIS, Turkmenistan pays special attention to creating favorable conditions for the full utilization of the logistics and infrastructure potential of the member states. The main areas of cooperation include uniting efforts to develop transport connectivity, creating sustainable and accessible transport and transit corridors, expanding opportunities for landlocked states, as well as strengthening multilateral relations in the Caspian region. All these areas fully comply with the global agenda on sustainable development and harmoniously align with the United Nations initiative to declare the years 2026–2035 as the Decade of Sustainable Transport.
