UN: Transit through Suez Canal decreased by 42%

The transit of goods through the Suez Canal fell by 42% compared to the peak level in May 2023, and shipments through the Panama Canal fell by 49% from the level of December 2021, according to a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

According to experts, the weekly transit of container ships on the route through the Suez Canal has fallen by 67%. At the same time, average freight rates for container transportation have increased significantly.
