On 3 March 2024, a delegation led by the Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan, Alhaj Nuruddin Azizi, visited Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
During the visit, the guests familiarised themselves with the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and its terminals.
The guests were also told about the advantages of the "customs storage" regime for goods in transit. The possibility of exporting goods in transit to third parties without customs duties for up to 3 years under "customs storage" was discussed in detail.
During the presentation, the head of the delegation carefully inspected the refrigerated container warehouse of the terminal. He was mainly interested in the possibility of storing Afghan vegetables and dried fruits for export in refrigerated containers at the terminal's warehouse. The storage facilities where refrigerated containers are stored were also shown.
The head of the delegation noted that there are two priority directions of freight transport in Afghanistan. It was noted that one of them is the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor and the other is the route to the Russian Federation via Turkmenistan.
Also during the visit the guests were shown the capabilities of the shipbuilding and ship repair yard "Balkan" and the works carried out on the vessels being repaired.
At the end of the visit to the port, the head of the delegation highly appreciated the work done to develop the maritime transport infrastructure of Turkmenistan.
