Currently, necessary work is being done to launch flights on the Ankara-Ashgabat route, noted Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok at an event organized by the Embassy at the Turkish Cultural Center in Ashgabat on Tuesday.
The event, dedicated to Türkiye's tourism week, was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan, local tourism firms, media, and residents of the capital.
Demirok emphasized that the aim of the "Tourism Week" is to promote Türkiye's tourism industry and draw attention to tourist regions and attractions both in Türkiye and worldwide.
According to official statistics, in 2022, Türkiye was visited by 45,249 citizens of Turkmenistan, while in 2023, this number increased to 120,928, marking a 167 percent increase, the Ambassador emphasized.
Furthermore, Demirok reported that as of April 1, 2024, Turkish Airlines increased the number of flights on the Istanbul-Ashgabat route from nine to eleven times per week, while Turkmenistan Airlines currently operates flights on the same route ten times per week.
At the familiarization event, taking place from April 15 to 22 of this year, videos showcasing Türkiye's famous tourist destinations were shown, speeches were delivered, and a photo exhibition was organized.
During the ceremony, guests were treated to dishes from the Turkish national cuisine.
