The second meeting of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council was held in Ashgabat on Tuesday, July 16. The agenda of the meeting, held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included consideration of the results of the visit of the UN Secretary General to Turkmenistan, as well as a discussion of the Action Plan in the country and abroad for the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution “International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025”.
At the meeting, the special significance of António Guterres’s visit in the history of relations between Turkmenistan and the UN was noted; the participants agreed that the results achieved would further strengthen partnership interaction and give them new impetus.
At the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan on March 21, 2024, resolution 78/266 was adopted by consensus on declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, which demonstrates the importance of continuing activities to promote a culture of peaceful dialogue in the international community.
During the meeting, it was also stated that the adoption of this resolution by the UN General Assembly as a platform for joint action is intended to contribute to the resolution of emerging conflict situations by peaceful, political and diplomatic methods and means, and to strengthening trusting relations between states, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The 1st meeting of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council was held on May 3, 2024.
During the official visit to Ashgabat on July 5-6, 2024, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with President of the country Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The UN head expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for hosting the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat and highly appreciated the policy of neutrality pursued by Turkmenistan.
