On Sunday, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in a solemn flower-laying ceremony at the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex in Ashgabat, commemorating the victims of the 1948 earthquake and the heroes who fell in battle. This was reported by official Turkmen media.
Early in the morning, citizens gathered at the memorial, located in the southwestern part of the capital, to pay their respects to the national heroes.
President Berdimuhamedov walked along the memorial path and laid a wreath at the Ruhy Tagzym monument, which honors the memory of the victims of the Ashgabat earthquake.
During the ceremony, the president also laid wreaths at the Milletiň Ogullary and Baky Şöhrat monuments, dedicated to Turkmenistan’s citizens who perished during the Great Patriotic War.
Following the president, government officials, military and law enforcement representatives, accredited diplomats, and international organizations also laid wreaths. Leaders of political parties, public organizations, students, and residents of Ashgabat joined the tribute.
After the ceremony, President Berdimuhamedov greeted participants and departed from the memorial.
Memorial Day events also took place in the city of Arkadag and all the provinces (velayats) of the country.
