A meeting dedicated to the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Caspian Sea, specifically the "Protocol on Regional Preparedness, Response and Cooperation in the Case of Pollution Incidents by Oil and Other Hazardous Substances" (hereinafter referred to as the Aktau Protocol), was held in Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan, on October 8-10, 2024.
Representatives from all five Caspian Sea countries, including the Turkmendenizderyayollary Agency, discussed issues related to the implementation of this protocol. The participants examined the draft plan for "Regional Cooperation on Combating Oil Pollution of the Marine Environment in Case of Emergencies in the Caspian Sea" and exchanged information on national plans for the prevention and response to oil spills.
The Aktau Protocol is a significant step in developing multilateral cooperation aimed at preserving the marine environment of the Caspian Sea.
