On April 3, 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with European Council President António Costa on Thursday in Samarkand during his working visit to Uzbekistan for the first Central Asia – European Union summit, according to Turkmenistan's official media.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with the European Union in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian, transport, and communication spheres. Head of state noted that the meeting would help enhance the multifaceted partnership with the EU.
Highlighting the increasing political and diplomatic ties between Turkmenistan and the EU in recent years, the President cited the Central Asia – European Union format as a significant step in expanding cooperation.
Costa highlighted the significance of the recent meeting between Central Asian and EU foreign ministers in Ashgabat, noting that such events foster long-term and multilateral cooperation.
Since 1991, Turkmenistan has actively developed its partnership with the European Union. In recent years, the EU has played a key role in Turkmenistan’s energy, trade, and infrastructure development.
