Turkmenistan’s President Participates in Mass Bicycle Ride

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part on Tuesday in a mass bicycle ride held in Ashgabat to mark World Bicycle Day, as reported by Turkmenistan’s state news agency.

The event was attended by the Speaker of the Mejlis, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, senior officials from the military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and sectoral administrations, city government representatives, leaders of public organizations, university officials, heads of mass media outlets, as well as heads of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan. Participants included members of the national cycling team, students, and representatives of civil society.

During the ride, Turkmen president instructed Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers in charge of agriculture, Tangryguly Atahalyev, to keep a constant focus on implementing the National Forestry Program, a long-term initiative aimed at improving the country’s environmental situation.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers overseeing Ashgabat, Baymyrat Annamammedov, briefed President Berdimuhamedov on measures being taken to further develop and improve the capital city.

The president emphasized the importance of successfully implementing the tasks outlined in Ashgabat’s development concept, including modernizing the city’s infrastructure, ensuring ecological well-being, and creating comfortable living conditions for residents. He instructed continued supervision of these efforts.

On Turkmenistan’s initiative, June 3 was declared World Bicycle Day. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the related resolution titled “Promoting Cycling to Achieve Sustainable Development and Integrate Cycling into Sustainable Transport Systems” during its 76th session, 61st plenary meeting.
