Turkmenbashi international sea port was awarded the certificate "EcoPorts"

On June 1, 2023, the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Ms. Helga Schmid, presented the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov with the «EcoPorts» certificate awarded to the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi. The reception of this certificate by the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port will give the status of a «Green Port» integrated into the transport system of Europe and the international level, creating great opportunities for the port. This certification will not only open up new opportunities for the port, but will also help improve the efficiency of the port.

Environmental protection is an important direction of the state policy of Turkmenistan. Carbon dioxide protection has been implemented at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, electric cranes are used, garbage disposal rules are observed, and innovative technologies have been implemented to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Each terminal of the seaport has bio-cleaning equipment that contributes to the preservation of the ecology of the Caspian Sea.

With the support of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port was aimed at obtaining the EcoPort certificate from the EcoPort Suistanable Logistic Chain (EcoPort SLC) of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to join the ranks of the Green Ports of the World. To obtain this certificate, several video conferences were held jointly with the OSCE and EcoPort SLC.

Thus, the Turkmenbashi seaport successfully passed the first stage of the SDM "Self Diagnostic Method" to obtain the international certificate "EcoPorts", and on November 14, 2022, joined the network of green ports of the world and was published on the official website of the EcoPort SLC organization (www. ecoslc.eu) and marked on the world map as "EcoPorts". Then, the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi proceeded to the second stage of PERS (Port Environmental Expertise System) to obtain the international certificate "EcoPorts", and on February 9, 2023, the port sent the relevant reports to the EcoPort SLC organization. The documents were received by EcoPortSLC and verified by Lloyd's Register of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

At the second stage of work, Lloyd's Register requested the international certificate "ISO 14001:2015 - Environmental Management System" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi. In the absence of the above certificate of international standard, Lloyd’s Register had to arrive at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and conduct an audit for compliance with environmental safety requirements in the services it provides.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. This organization develops international standards in relevant areas, which are accepted in more than 150 countries around the world. All international certificates issued in accordance with the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization confirm that the company's activities comply with international standards, and these certificates are registered with the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). The presence of an international management system allows you to successfully solve complex technical and organizational problems facing this enterprise, increases its managerial and competitiveness at the international level, and is a guarantee of the quality of services provided.

However, the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi has successfully obtained international certificates "ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System" (includes quality assurance of works performed at the enterprise and services provided to customers), "ISO 14001:2015 - Environmental Management System" (includes protection of the marine environment from negative impacts, reduction of atmospheric emissions, protection of land resources from industrial waste) and "ISO 45001:2018 - Occupational Health and Safety" (includes ensuring high-quality technical safety of work performed within the enterprise , employees and customers at all levels working in the enterprise,) the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Thus, obtaining the international certificate "ISO" has made a great contribution to obtaining the certificate "EcoPorts". The "Ecoports"certificate is a clear proof of the full implementation of environmental protection in the services provided by the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
