The Maritime Transport Industry is Geared Towards Development

Establishing a broad system of international transport and transit corridors that meet modern requirements is one of the most vital goals of Turkmenistan's transport strategy. By stimulating sustainable economic growth, these corridors will facilitate the seamless movement of passengers, goods, and services, and strengthen the competitiveness of the country's transport system in the international arena.

Enhancing the competitiveness of the maritime sector and developing international activity are among the key strategic objectives. Consistent work is being carried out to develop international transport corridors passing through Turkmenistan, increase cargo flows, establish transport and logistics centers abroad, improve passenger and freight transport technologies, and expand international cooperation in staff training and professional development.

With the active participation of "Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan" OJSC, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport is regularly being integrated into new global routes. During 2025, a trial container train from Zhejiang, China, was successfully dispatched to the Port of Baku via Turkmenistan as part of the China–Europe route.

Cargo transported via the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan multimodal corridor is brought from Kashgar to the Turkmenbashi port, from where it is shipped across the sea to Azerbaijan and Europe.

The "Balkan" Shipbuilding and Repairing Yard, which plays a crucial role in the maritime transport system, has fully established repair services for both the national fleet and foreign companies. Since its inauguration, the shipyard has performed repairs on various types of vessels, completing orders on time and with high quality. Currently, the construction of 2 dry cargo ships and 1 dredger is underway at the "Balkan" shipyard. Additionally, there are plans to build 2 Ro-Ro ferries and 3 more dry cargo ships in the near future.

The continued implementation of projects to develop the seaport, the national merchant marine fleet, and the "Balkan" shipyard will further enhance the significance and prestige of Turkmenistan’s maritime transport capabilities in international markets.
