On August 11-12, 2023, international events were held in the national tourist zone "Avaza", including international conferences dedicated to the Day of the Caspian Sea. On this day, on August 12, 2006, the Tehran Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea came into force and signed by representatives of the Caspian countries: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan,
During the international conference, the speakers spoke about the successful implementation of the tasks set in the field of protecting the marine environment of the Caspian Sea.
The conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, as well as Georgia and Romania. The international community was represented by representatives of the UN, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the International Institute of the Law of the Sea and the International Ocean Institute.
Also during the conference, speakers spoke about compliance with environmental standards and the fulfillment of tasks in the Turkmenbashi international seaport. The speeches were about the implementation of the carbon dioxide protection, the use of electric cranes, compliance with the rules of garbage disposal, as well as innovative technologies that help reduce the negative impact on the environment in the Turkmenbashi seaport. Each terminal of the seaport has bio-cleaning equipment that contributes to the preservation of the ecology of the Caspian Sea.
Also, during the event, competitions in various sports were held among schoolchildren of the city of Turkmenbashi, as well as drawing competitions in applied art, on the theme of the beautiful nature of the Caspian Sea in the health and recreation centers “Dayanch” and “Hasyl”, of the national tourist zone “Avaza”.
Summing up the event, participants expressed a common opinion on the importance of maintaining cooperation, peace and trust in the Caspian Sea region. They also stressed the need for further strengthen international partnerships in ensuring reliable environmental protection of the Caspian Sea and developing its potential in the interests of well-being and progress.
The participants of the conference got acquainted with the exposition of the exhibition dedicated to the Day of the Caspian Sea. And the holiday ended with a concert in which the artists of the State Drama Theater of the Balkan velayat and children's art schools performed.
