CIS Summit in Awaza: International Events and High-Level Meetings Scheduled for October 7–9

From October 7 to 9, 2026, a series of high-level international events will be held in the Awaza National Tourist Zone as part of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The main event will be the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State on October 9, chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will attend the meeting. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is also expected to attend. During the summit, participants will discuss cooperation in the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres, review the results of the Commonwealth's work this year, and set objectives for the future.

According to the program of scheduled events, on October 7 in Awaza, an international dialogue titled "Promoting Sustainable Development and Enhancing the Role of Women," a conference of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS on healthcare, and an international conference titled "Demographic Trends and Sustainable Development: Modern Challenges and International Experience" will be held. On the same day, a high-level meeting of Central Asian countries on the efficient use of water resources of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, a meeting on seed production, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states, Central Asian countries, and Azerbaijan, a meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea Issues, and the final stage of the "Tatar Kyzy – 2026" international contest are planned.

On October 8, a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan will take place. On the same day, a festival of national cuisines of CIS member states and Iran, an award ceremony for the winners of the "Winged Steed: Power and Grace" interstate telefilm contest and the "Tatar Kyzy – 2026" contest, as well as a concert featuring cultural and art masters of the CIS member states, will be held.

On October 9, alongside the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the Caspian Ecological Summit and an exhibition of the CIS member states and Iran at the exhibition area of the Awaza Sports Complex will take place.
