On September 11, 2023, , a meeting was held in the administrative building of the «Turkmendenizderyayollary» agency between the heads of the «Turkmendenizderyayollary» agency and representatives of the «Korean Marine Equipment Association» KOMEA and the «Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology company. Co., Ltd.» (KSIT) of the Republic of Korea.

The agenda included consideration of issues related to the planning and implementation of projects in the field of shipbuilding aimed at the development of the national merchant fleet of Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to the current issue of the construction of dry cargo vessels, as well as ferries in the country's merchant fleet, given the existing high demand.

«KOMEA»   is an association that unites 286 Korean manufacturers of marine equipment.

The parties discussed the details and prospects of the project related to the construction of two dry cargo vessels at the «Balkan»  shipbuilding and repairing yard. The extensive capabilities and modern equipments that are obtained at the «Balkan» shipyard were presented to the representatives of the company «Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology company. Co., Ltd.», highlighting its ability to build 4-6 high quality vessels per year.

Representatives of «KOMEA» and «KSIT» noted the professionalism of local specialists and modern technologies used at the «Balkan» shipyard and expressed confidence in the great prospects for cooperation.

This meeting is an important step towards strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the field of shipbuilding and maritime industry.

It is important to note that, within the framework of the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan, aimed at further development of the country’s National Merchant Fleet which was signed on August 31, 2023, targeted measures are being taken to achieve the set objectives.
