The European Commission (EC) announced the launch of two major projects under the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), with the participation of EC President Ursula von der Leyen, US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The first project is an economic corridor India - Middle East - Europe, which will connect the three regions through modern communications infrastructure. This helps to improve economic relations by providing better access to goods, energy and data. The project includes the integration of rail and port connections across multiple countries, which will speed up the transit of goods and the development of energy infrastructure, including green hydrogen, and improve telecommunications with a new submarine cable.
The second project, the Trans-African Corridor, will improve transport connectivity in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, stimulating investment.
