On October 10, 2023, the seventh meeting of the Turkmen-Romanian working group on energy cooperation was held in Bucharest. The Turkmen delegation was headed by the Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmennebit” Guvanch Agadzhanov. The Romanian delegation was led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Romania, Mr. Pavel-Casian Nitulescu.
From the Romanian side, the meeting was attended by experts from the Romanian Ministry of Energy and representatives of Romanian energy companies, as well as representatives of the Oil and Gas University of Ploiesti. From the Turkmen side, the working group included representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the International University of Oil and Gas named after Y. Kakaev, the State Concerns "Turkmengaz" and "Turkmennebit", the State Electric Power Corporation "Turkmenenergo" of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenbashi Oil Refinery and CJSC "Merchant Marine Fleet".
According to the declaration signed in Ashgabat on July 22, 2009 by representatives of Romania and Turkmenistan, an important place is assigned to Turkmen-Romanian cooperation. Mutual cooperation is based mainly on the prospects for implementing joint projects in such areas as diversification of energy sources and their transportation routes, oil and gas production and transportation, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
During the meeting, the Turkmen side proposed to consider the issue of involving the vessels of CJSC “The Marine Merchant Fleet” as the national sea carrier of Turkmenistan when transporting products across the Caspian Sea.
The parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the Turkmen-Romanian working group on energy cooperation in 2024 in Ashgabat.
