From January 28 to February 3, 2024, with the assistance of the Classification Society “Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore sas” (BV qualification society), specialists of the Administration of State Supervision of Shipping in Turkmenistan took part in a training on the topic “Surveys of ship in service”, which was organized in Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan. This training was conducted within the framework of the “Agreement on delegating authority to perform statutory certification services for ships registered in Turkmenistan” concluded between the «Turkmendenizderyayollary» agency and the classification society BV, on December 5, 2020.
During the training, specialists from the classification society BV conducted classes on the basic requirements for ensuring safe navigation of ships and preventing environmental pollution in accordance with international standards. In particular, the concept of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), the activities of classification societies, their concept and their significance were studied. In addition, the issue of state port control was discussed, its main functions and importance in ensuring the safety of navigation were informed in detail. In addition, during the seminar, the progressive practices of the BV classification society were studied under the sections of the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS-74).
During the training, the Turkmen side was also informed about the relevant sections of the International Maritime Organization Convention (SOLAS-74) and its constituent codes (LSA, ISM, ISPS, etc.), i.e. collective and individual rescue devices on ships, various types of fire extinguishers, fire protection systems, radio navigation equipment that ensures the safety of maritime navigation on board, the peculiarities of the carriage of goods, especially dangerous goods, as well as the International Convention on Load Marks-66 and the Convention on the prevention of pollution from ships (MARPOL-73/78).
Based on the results of the training, the specialists were awarded the appropriate certificates in the field of “Surveys of ship in service.”
