Over the eleven months of last year, Russia increased wheat supplies to Egypt by more than a third in annual terms.
This follows from calculations by РИА "Новости" based on data from the UN Comtrade platform.
In January-November 2023, Egypt purchased $3.25 billion worth of wheat on the world market, which is 6% less in annual terms. At the same time, the country spent a total of $5.5 billion on grain purchases, compared to $5.9 billion in the same period in 2022.
Russia remained the largest supplier of wheat for the country, which supplied Egypt with $2.3 billion worth of wheat during the specified period, compared to $1.7 billion for the same period a year earlier. As a result, Russia's share of wheat supplies to Egypt rose to 71% last year from 49% in 2022.
