Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Strengthen Cooperation in Transport and Logistics

Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, held video talks with Mammetkhan Chakyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications.

During the meeting, the parties discussed increasing the volume of freight traffic between the countries using the capabilities of the Caspian Sea. Both sides expressed confidence that increasing the flow of goods through regional ports can significantly impact logistics at both the regional and international levels, which is important for improving the efficiency of trade relations.

Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan discussed the possibility of creating multimodal routes to expand trade flows. The parties are considering ways to transport goods along the "East-West" route, which will include crossing the territories of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It is important to note that this route involves the use of a transport hub at the port of Alat in Azerbaijan, which will open access to European markets.

The parties emphasized the strategic importance of increasing the volume of transportation across the Caspian Sea to expand access to European markets, which will strengthen economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan and open up new opportunities for exporting products from Central Asia.

The talks demonstrated the desire of both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the framework of international logistics, which can become an important contribution to the economic development of Central Asia and its ties with European markets.
