On May 31, 2023, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, headed by the Director General of the Department of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, got acquainted with the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as part of a business visit to the city of Turkmenbashi.
The guests got acquainted in detail with the possibilities of the seaport, its terminals, services, cooperation with large foreign companies and transport-logistics opportunities. Representatives of transport and logistics companies of the Republic of Finland expressed their interest in transportation of cargo along the route of the Republic of China to European countries through the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port, and noted that the Turkmenbashi port is equipped with modern technology, and stressed that in the future there are great opportunities for establishing bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation .
Also, the representatives visited the shipbuilding shipyard "Balkan" to get acquainted with the capabilities and capacities of the plant and noted the feasibility of establishing bilateral cooperation in the field of shipbuilding. In particular, in order to implement future shipbuilding projects, the parties expressed their interest in purchasing equipment and spare parts necessary for construction from “Wärtsilä” company or other Finnish manufacturers of marine equipment, and it was also noted to establish cooperation to improve the professional skills of the specialists of shipbuilding sphere.
Currently, 8 oil tankers and 2 Ro-Pax ferries of the national merchant fleet are equipped with “Wärtsilä” companies engines from the Republic of Finland.
