Iran increased the volume of export cargo transportation through the Caspian Sea by 20%

Iran exported 2.5 million tons of goods worth about $1.58 billion to the Caspian Sea littoral states in the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023 - February 19, 2024).

According to Kambiz Jahanbani, managing director of Khazar Shipping Company, a shipping company in northern Iran, agricultural products accounted for 30% of total exports through the Caspian Sea during the period.

Kambiz Jahanbani also noted that the cost of exporting by sea is 40% lower than by land, adding that the Khazar shipping company is ready to export 30% of the agricultural products of northern Iranian provinces through the Caspian Sea. He said that Khazar Shipping Company operates 30 vessels with a total capacity of 120 thousand tons.

According to him, if exporters are ready, the Caspian Shipping Company can increase the number of container ships equipped with refrigerators to 500 units during the program from 6 months to one year and transport up to 3,000 containers or 65 thousand tons per year, Iran.ru reports.
